FIXDRY NT1 Filament Dryer Review: Dual-Spool Setup, Humidity Results, and Dry Box Use

The FIXDRY NT1 is a dryer for makers who need to keep two standard spools ready at once—or fit one larger spool—rather than cycling through a compact single-spool unit. In my initial hands-on review, it was straightforward to load, the rollers moved smoothly, the controls stayed simple, and the display showed the chamber at 18% humidity a little over three hours into the run.

My short answer: the NT1 is a good fit for a multi-printer or multi-material workspace that wants a dryer to keep doing double duty as a dry box. It is physically bigger than a one-spool unit and has active ventilation to consider, but the build quality, flexible filament routing, and two-spool capacity stood out in this review. This article covers what I personally unboxed, loaded, and observed; it is not a laboratory comparison or a controlled before-and-after print-quality test.

Quick verdict

The FIXDRY NT1 gave me a more substantial first impression than a lightweight, basic dryer box. It is built around a larger chamber with smooth roller supports, a four-button control panel, and multiple filament routing locations. I liked the clean, simple workflow: load the spools, use the instructions as a starting point for temperature and time, let the unit run, and then keep the dried material inside if that is useful for the printer layout.

What this hands-on review verifies

Unboxing, build quality, and what arrived

The box included the dryer, its cover, a feed tube, a heat shroud, and printed instructions. There was little assembly required. Right away, the rollers, cover, and control area felt more solid to me than some low-cost dryer boxes I had used previously. That is an initial build-quality impression, not a durability claim after years of use, but it is important when the lid and roller supports will be handled frequently.

The front is intentionally simple. Instead of a touch interface with many menus, there are four buttons and a display. The manual has a useful material temperature-and-time reference; I would keep it nearby, but I would still compare every choice with the exact material label before heating a spool.

Loading two standard spools or one large spool

The NT1 has two roller sets for common spool sizes. I loaded a standard spool onto the supports and showed that it rolled freely. With two typical 1 kg spools, each one uses its own side. With a larger 3 kg spool, the spool spans both roller areas, so the dryer becomes a one-spool unit for that run.

The cover made a tight seal when I put it back on. It may take a small adjustment to seat it cleanly, but it did not feel flimsy. The dryer also has several filament exit positions around the enclosure, which is a practical advantage when two printers sit on different sides of the work area or when the best path is not directly in front of the unit.

When loading mixed materials, start with the safer constraint

The NT1 can physically hold different filament types, but that does not mean those materials belong in the same heated cycle. In the video, my practical rule was to use the lower recommended temperature if I had to dry mixed materials, even if that meant running longer. The safer option is to dry one material family at a time when their heat limits are meaningfully different.

Controls and fan noise

The front display makes the basic information easy to see: the dryer reports temperature and humidity while giving you a straightforward way to change the time and temperature. I found the four-button layout usable because the manual did not need to become a constant reference after the initial setup.

During the active run, my impression was that the unit was roughly comparable to hearing a quiet 3D printer fan. I would not necessarily put it beside my desk while working all day, but I did not consider the noise a reason to rule it out. That is a subjective, room-specific observation—not a calibrated noise measurement or a comparison against every current dryer.

Drying results: what the on-unit display showed

A little over three hours into the run, the display showed 18% humidity. I checked it again about a day later, once the chamber had returned to ambient temperature, and it read 36%. That rise makes sense in the context of a dryer that needs ventilation while it is actively removing moisture; it also shows why a dry-box workflow deserves different thinking than a one-time heated cycle.

These readings are useful as first-hand results from the setup in the video, not as a promise of what another spool, room, or climate will do. The video did not contain a controlled before-and-after print comparison. If moisture is the suspected cause of bubbles, roughness, or stringing, reprint the same familiar model with the same slicer settings after drying so one changed variable gives you meaningful evidence.

Using it as a dry box after the heater stops

The multi-position outlets are what make the NT1 more than a two-spool dryer. Once material is dry, you can continue feeding it toward the printer from the box. In the video, I also discussed using silica gel and covering the top ventilation holes if the goal is storage rather than an active drying cycle.

⚠️ Warning

Do not block the ventilation while the heater is running. The holes are part of the active drying workflow, so remove any temporary cover before starting another heated cycle.

That distinction matters. A dryer needs airflow to move moisture out while it runs. A dry box aims to limit new moisture from getting back in after the material is ready. Treat them as two different modes: heat and ventilation for the drying cycle; sealed storage and desiccant once the cycle is done.

Who the FIXDRY NT1 is for

I would put the NT1 on the shortlist for someone who usually has two active spools, operates more than one printer, or wants a dryer that can stay in the filament path after a cycle. The larger capacity, roller layout, and routing flexibility make more sense in that workflow than a small one-spool unit.

It is less compelling if you only ever dry one spool, have very limited bench space, or want an ultra-quiet device directly beside a desk. A compact single-spool dryer is usually the simpler fit for that use case. The best choice is the one that matches how many spools must be ready at the same time—not simply the one with the largest chamber.

A repeatable two-spool drying checklist

1. Identify each material and compare the label limits before placing two spools together. 2. Load the rollers so both spools turn freely and the feed tubes do not bind. 3. Use a conservative setting for the more temperature-sensitive material, or dry materials separately. 4. Leave ventilation open during the heated run. 5. Reprint one familiar model to check the symptom you were trying to solve. 6. When the cycle ends, move into dry-box mode with sealed storage or desiccant if the spools will remain loaded.

Can the NT1 hold two spools?

Yes. The review shows two roller areas sized for common spools. A larger 3 kg spool uses both roller sets, so it becomes a one-spool setup.

Can I run two different filament materials together?

You can physically load them, but heat compatibility matters. My conservative approach in the video was to use the lower temperature if materials must be mixed, or dry them separately when their recommended ranges differ.

Does 18% humidity mean every spool is fully dry?

No. That was the on-unit reading from this test setup a little over three hours in. It is a useful result, but a controlled reprint is the better confirmation that drying helped a particular spool and print problem.

Bottom line

My initial review found the FIXDRY NT1 easy to load, thoughtfully suited to a two-spool workflow, and better built than I expected from a simple dryer box. The display dropped to 18% during the active run and was 36% the following day, which also makes the dry-box/ventilation tradeoff clear. If you need two active spools or one large spool ready for printing, its larger format and routing options are its real strengths.
