The Creality SparkX i7 Combo works well out of the box. That is why the best early prints are not supposed to rescue its print quality. They are practical quality-of-life additions: prints that catch purge material, protect the build plate during cleanup, reclaim desk space, and keep the CFS Lite setup orderly.

1. Print a filament catcher first

The filament catcher is the one accessory I would call necessary for this machine. When the printer cuts purge material, a simple low tray can work at the bottom of the Z range. The problem appears as the print gets taller: the cut piece can be thrown sideways instead of landing where you expect, leaving a pile of scraps beside the printer.

The version shown in the video uses a small stopper that directs the material downward. That detail is what makes the design more dependable than the first base-only catcher I tried. A catcher that travels with the Z axis is another valid approach, but the goal is the same: give the purge material a repeatable path into a contained area.

The catcher in the video slides into place well enough without fastening it. If your chosen design is intended to be secured, use its mounting screws and confirm it cannot interfere with moving parts.

2. Keep a printable plastic scraper for cleanup

A plastic scraper is not SparkX-specific, but it is one of the most practical small prints to keep near any printer. Many printers include a metal scraper. I avoid using metal on build plates whenever I can because it is easy to damage a surface. A printed scraper is inexpensive, replaceable, and available in whatever size feels comfortable for your workflow.

The scraper shown has some wear, which is exactly the point: once a plastic version becomes too worn to work well, print another rather than forcing a damaged tool to do the job. In the video, the estimated material cost was roughly 20 to 25 cents for a replacement. Letting the plate cool and flexing it when appropriate should still be the first choice; a scraper is for cleanup when it is actually needed.

3. Use a CFS Lite stand when desk space matters

With the CFS Lite sitting beside the SparkX i7, the Combo takes a meaningful amount of desk space. The printed stand in the video puts the CFS Lite above the printer, which makes the setup much easier to live with in a crowded print area. It is a larger, longer print than a catcher or scraper, but it can be worth the time when the alternative is giving up valuable bench space.

This is also the upgrade with the clearest installation warning. The stand has screw holes on the back, and at least one screw should be installed on each side. Do not assume a friction fit is enough: vibration can gradually work the stand loose. I nearly had that happen before catching it a few inches out of position and securing it afterward.

Before starting a print after installing a stand, watch the first motion cycle. Confirm the CFS Lite, PTFE tubes, power leads, and the printer's moving parts all have relaxed clearance.

4. Add silica-gel holders to the CFS Lite

The CFS Lite can hold silica-gel packets, but a printed holder makes loose desiccant easier to manage. The holders shown accept indicating silica gel: the beads start orange and change color after absorbing their capacity. That gives you a direct visual cue to check or refresh the desiccant instead of guessing how long a packet has been in service.

Fill the holder, fit the lid, and shake it over a trash can to remove any small beads that escaped during loading. Then remove the existing packet area in the CFS Lite and slide the holder into place before putting the filament back. The holder is not a magic drying system; it simply keeps the desiccant contained, visible, and easier to handle.

If your filament has already absorbed moisture, use the filament drying temperature chart for material-specific starting points rather than expecting storage desiccant to reverse an existing moisture problem.

5. Clean up the cable runs with printed ties

The final recommendation is a pair of cable-management ties: one for the extruder area and one for the X-axis run. They do not change how the printer prints, but they prevent a loose cable from dangling and flopping behind the machine. If you only print one, the video recommends the X-axis version first because that is the most visible loose run.

Cable management only helps if it preserves movement. Route the cable or tube with enough slack for the printer's full travel, then watch a complete motion check. A tie that looks tidy but pulls a cable tight at one end of travel is worse than no tie at all.

What I would treat as optional

There are many cosmetic SparkX i7 prints: alternate hot-end covers, caps, trim pieces, screen covers, and color-theme parts. They can make the printer feel more personal, and there are some great examples, but I would not put them ahead of the five functional upgrades above. Print them when you have a color theme in mind, not because the stock machine needs them to perform.

A sensible order to print these upgrades

Start with the filament catcher. It solves the most immediate recurring mess and is a short, targeted print. Next, make a plastic scraper if you do not already have one. Add the CFS Lite stand when the machine's footprint becomes a problem, then the silica-gel holders if you want a cleaner desiccant routine. Finish with cable ties once you know how the tubes and cables naturally route in your own setup.

Do not fill a new printer with accessories on day one. Run stock prints first. That makes it easier to tell whether an issue is the printer, filament, slicer profile, or an add-on you just installed.
