Quick verdict: who should make the swap?
This is a workflow decision more than a blanket print-quality upgrade. The CFS Nano made sense for my i7 because I wanted the smaller arrangement and a more direct dryer-feed path. That does not make the CFS Lite a bad choice. If your Lite is stable, your available space is not a constraint, and you prefer its more rigid setup, there is no reason to replace it just because the Nano exists.

What I tested on the existing SparkX i7
I approached this as an existing-owner conversion rather than an unboxing. Before changing hardware, I checked the firmware state and then worked through the physical swap, the PTFE/buffer path, and the way the printer behaved with the system empty and loaded. After that, I used a multicolor workflow to watch color changes and purge behavior.

Those are the things that change day to day.
The conversion does not, by itself, change the model’s required color transitions or eliminate the material that must be purged when switching colors. If purge waste is the main pain point, treat it as a print-planning and slicer problem first. The material system choice may improve how the job is fed, but it is not a shortcut around the multicolor process.
A preflight checklist before moving from Lite to Nano
Use the current Creality documentation for the exact procedure and compatibility requirements. For an existing printer, I would still treat these checks as non-negotiable before taking a working setup apart. They reduce the chance that a routing issue is mistaken for a printer problem after the swap.
- Confirm the firmware and current compatibility guidance for your exact SparkX i7 configuration.
- Photograph the working Lite arrangement before you remove anything, especially every PTFE connection and buffer route.
- Make a note of which spools were loaded and run a known-good test before the change so you have a baseline.
- Plan the physical placement first. The Nano’s benefit is most meaningful when it solves a real space or feed-path problem.
- After the swap, start with a controlled multicolor job and watch the complete load, change, and purge sequence instead of assuming the first successful load proves the whole path.
What I watched after the conversion
The first check was physical: I looked at the arrangement empty and then with material loaded. That is where a compact system can feel very different from a lighter, empty bench setup. I also checked the route from the material source through the buffer and toward the printer because tight or awkward tube paths are exactly the kind of issue that can turn a clean-looking upgrade into a frustrating one.
Next came the practical multicolor checks. I watched how the system handled color changes in the same print and kept purge in the evaluation instead of treating it as an unrelated detail. The point was not to claim that every color-changing job will behave the same; it was to make sure this i7 conversion worked through the actual workflow I would use.

When I would keep the CFS Lite
I would not convert an i7 just to chase a newer accessory. Keep the Lite if it is dependable in your space, you are satisfied with its more rigid feel, and you do not need the smaller footprint or dryer-feed arrangement that pushed me toward the Nano. A working material system is already doing the most important job: feeding the printer reliably.
When the CFS Nano conversion is the better fit
The Nano is the more compelling option when the existing Lite setup competes with the rest of your workspace, or when the way you manage dry filament benefits from a cleaner route into the printer. In that case, the swap is about making the everyday setup easier to live with—not about declaring the Lite obsolete.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the conversion will reduce purge waste. It does not change the underlying color-change requirement.
- Changing hardware without recording the original PTFE route and a known-good baseline.
- Judging stability only when the system is empty instead of checking it with the material you actually use.
- Treating a successful initial load as proof that every color-change path is reliable. Run a controlled multicolor job.
